I guess you've probably arrived on this page because you're a Mailwasher user and you want to find about the free set of utilities that are available. Well, everything is explained here, what they are, what they do, how to use them etc. I hope you download and find these utilities useful, you will be joining a friendly community of users that totals somewhere around a quarter of a million!

Before you start browsing, allow me to introduce the utilities to you with a little history. There were six original utilities, the very first was called BLScan and was later followed by BLComp, BLJoin, BLConv, Totter and UnRotter. As already mentioned, these were originally six different programs, in 2004 I integrated all of these into a single program called BLScanPlus (basically BLScan Plus all the others), so there became just one program to install with all of the utilities available within it. Since then an even newer version called BLScanLite is available.

So I'm delighted to announce that there are now three flavors of the software...

BLScanLite

The new version, with many improved features, a lot of which were suggested by users. This version is 'lite' in the sense that many things have been simplified.

BLScanPlus

Classic - BLScanPlus Classic is the first and oldest version, this is a 'console' or 'DOS' style application which runs in a command window and is driven from the keyboard. This has proven to be extremely popular, has thousands of satisfied users and hundreds of new users every month. The main value of this version is that runs on just about computer, the downside is that it is a trip back to the days of the old DOS style programs, which looks really dated these days!
Pro - At popular request I produced a second flavor called BLScanPlus Pro. This is the same set of utilities and functions as the Classic version, but uses the more familiar windows style interface. So this new version is mostly GUI or mouse driven and has the same look and feel as many well known Windows based applications. A step into the future.

You can use any combination in parallel, so you could try out all of them, but if in doubt, use BLScanLite since this is latest and greatest version.

The remainder of this page gives an introduction and summary of the BLScanPlus flavor.

This product is 'not for profit', no charge is made for current/future versions of this software. Users are however invited to contribute something towards the development and support of this software/site, which is funded out of my own pocket and from very kind donations from users. For several years I have been using Firetrust's excellent Mailwasher program to filter my incoming emails. This has proven to be very successful, with close to 100% of my email being recognised correctly as legitimate or otherwise. Although Mailwasher is a superb program, over time I have identified a number of functions that it does not support and I have produced a set of utilities to implement them.

Blacklist Utilities: The Blacklist is one of the most effective strategies in combating spam. You can blot out individuals, entire domains or even entire countries! It is easy to use, you are in total control of the content, it yields very few false positives and most importantly it swallows a huge amount of incoming spam! BLScan, BLComp, BLJoin and BLConv enhance the value of the Blacklist and can make it much more effective. See My Guide for an explanation of all of the anti-spam strategies used within Mailwasher.

Trash Utilities: Did you delete something important?, did the less reliable anti-spam features of Mailwasher push something important into the Trash? Which one of your accounts is being hardest hit with spam? Dumpster dive your Trash file with Totter and UnRotter.

All of these utilities are now integrated into one program and can be downloaded from this site. BLScanLite, or the "Lite" version is the newest, the older BLScanPlus is available as a "Classic" version (console) and a "Pro" version (GUI). On this website, I hope you will find all of the information you need to download, install, run and apply the utilities within BLScanPlus to best effect. Enjoy!

B L S c a n P l u s	BLScanPlus	A single program now incorporates all of the following utilities...	* All utilities are now integrated into BLScanLite BLScanPlus "Classic" and BLScanPlus "Pro" *
	BLScan (V1.5)	The original BLScan utility to manage a Mailwasher Blacklist file. By identifying frequently occurring domains, BLScan replaces the associated addresses with a single wildcard for those domains. This reduces the size of the Blacklist file and will filter out more incoming spam. BLScan has a 'scan' mode, where a Blacklist file is scanned to determine how how many domains in the list of addresses contained within it occur multiple times. From this BLScan generates appropriate wildcards and a variety of summaries. BLScan also has a 'manual wildcarding' mode where it will step through the Blacklist and prompt the user as to whether a frequently occurring domain encountered should be converted to a wildcard. BLScan features many options.
	BLComp (V1.1)	A utility to compare the blacklist or whitelist sections of two Blacklist files, or compare a blacklist file against an address list or compare two address lists.
	BLConv (V1.0)	A utility to convert the wildcarded domains present in a Blacklist file into a Mailwasher filter. This allows blacklist data to be safely exchanged with others.
	BLJoin (V1.0)	A utility to join two blacklists together, without duplication and with the option of joining the blacklist and/or whitelist.
	Totter (V1.1)	Totter sifts through a Mailwasher Trash file and allows the user to see which and also how many deleted emails were sent to a given address. Totter will also perform a similar function for user specified search strings. So if you're wondering whether you may have deleted something important, you can easily search through the trash with Totter.
	UnRotter (V1.0)	UnRotter descrambles a ROT135 file. Mailwasher stores various information in files scrambled using an algorithm refererred to as ROT135. This includes the Trash file that carries your deleted messages. UnRotter allows these files to be decoded and converted back to readable text. Mailwasher scrambles these files for a reason and users must be attentive to the issues documented on the UnRotter page.
